Sweet and Sour re Victor Ortiz. Two Viewpoints.

Victor Ortiz has been the target of brutal criticism since his fourth-round stoppage loss to Andre Berto, but Ortiz’s trainer, Joseph “Hoss” Janik, has had enough of his fighter being called a “quitter,” and took to Instagram to make the following soulful comments:

The Sweet

"Outsiders will never know what it takes just to get to this point. Pain, sacrifice, discipline, heart & balls. Victor put in the work & was executing our game plan perfectly when he got hit with a great uppercut. He rose from that devastating shot & didn't hold...he didn't run...he showed amazing courage & will to immediately trade with Berto attempting to hurt him with a big shot. As a teacher, I would have liked to see my student be a little more defensive at that time BUT his natural instincts as a fighter took over and he attempted to steady himself and answer with his own power shots. What more can you ask. When he climbed to his feet after the 2nd knockdown, I could see in his eyes he was out on his feet. If Jack Reiss hadn't stopped the fight, I would have. Soldiers are warriors who fight & die for a greater good(I served with honor in the U.S. Army so I know), while fighters are modern day gladiators that battle each other for our entertainment. They lose a little bit of themselves every time they enter the ring/cage whether sparring or in a fight. That's the path they chose. However, they should never be expected to put their lives on the line. That price is ultimately TOO high. I am proud of the way my guy fought and conducts himself in & out of the ring. He is dedicated, proud, funny, caring & talented. This loss saddened him greatly even though most of you will never see that. He lives his life the way he wants to & I respect him for that. I have found that people dislike others because we are not who THEY want us to be. That saddens me. I stand proudly & confidently as a man, a son, a brother, a parent, a teacher & a human being... a child of GOD #themaninthemirror #knuckleheadzfamily"

The Sour

The talented Mikey Garcia made the following negative--and grammatically challenged-- comments about Victor.

"He tried to make it seem like he didn't quit. From what I've seen, and I think a lot of people will agree, he quit on himself. And that's not the first time it happened. He don't wanna make it seem like that. He stood there, he got up at the very, very last second, thinking Jack's just gonna stop it. Jack's giving him an opportunity, asking him, and he pretends or acts like he's hurt, waiting for the ref to stop it so it don't look like he quit. But he quit. He don't have it. He just don't have it. He's never had it. We were sparring back when we were 16, 17 years old, and I was the first one to tell Robert and my dad, 'You know what, this guy don't got it. He doesn't have the heart. He's gonna probably quit one day.' And at that time he was too young, whatever, but he ended up doing it. He did it with Maidana, he did it now, he did it with Floyd, he did it with Collazo. Every single time, he's been dropped and whatever, but when the fight is stopped, it seems like he just decides not to."

I once learned the hard way that if you have something bad to say about someone, you might not want to say it. Garcia is riding high. He had no reason to do this. Another thing I learned the hard way when I was young is that when someone is down and in a corner, it's not good to go after them
