Muhammad Ali's Memorial Service. What Were Your Reactions?

Just got finished watching the Muhammad Ali memorial service which started an hour later than advertised and was expected to run about two hours. It was obvious early on that it was going to drag on beyond the allotted time when U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch from Utah made his long-winded eulogy. Wow, that speech could have been a lot tighter.

I was moved by many parts of the service. I think some of Ali's charisma rubbed off on his widow Lonnie. I never knew she was so eloquent. I loved the line when she referenced Joe Martin, Ali's first boxing coach: "America should never forget that when a cop and an inner city kid talk to each other, miracles can happen."

Interested in your impressions, but please let's restrict your thoughts to the civilians that spoke, leaving the clerics from the various faiths out of it.

Among the celebrities from the world of sports that were reportedly in the audience: George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Don King, Bob Arum, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, David Beckham, Pat Riley, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

By the way, in the speech reportedly written by President Obama, delivered through an emissary, they re-retold an anecdote that appeared in Jerry Izenberg's column six days ago. The journalist in me thinks they should have acknowledged the source.
