Street Brawler Turned MMA Star Kimbo Slice (7-0 as a conventional boxer) Dead at age 42

Kimbo Slice, a former strip club bouncer who attracted attention by videotaping street fights on "you tube," has reportedly died at age 42. Although unofficial, his death appears to have been caused by a heart attack. A father of six, he was living with his girlfriend in Coral Springs, Florida.

Born Kevin Ferguson in the Bahamas, Slice's fame out-stripped his talent. His first MMA fight, ostensibly an exhibition, came in 2007 when he opposed 46-year-old Ray Mercer, the former WBO heavyweight champion. In his first fight under the auspices of MMA powerhouse UFC he was defeated by Roy Nelson. He had one more fight under their banner before the UFC cut him loose. In 2015, he joined UCF rival Bellator MMA. He was scheduled to fight in July on a Ballator fight card in London.

Kimbo was undefeated in seven conventional boxing matches with six stoppages. However, he opposed only one fighter with a winning record, that being 40-year-old Howard Jones who sported a 5-4 record but had a 4-fight losing streak. Like many of Kimbo Slice's fights in both combat sports, there was a bad odor to it.

Following his last MMA fight in Texas, Slice tested positive for anabolic steroids and an elevated testosterone ratio.
